Empire Sofa
In the parlor is a crotch-grained mahogany veneer sofa Empire sofa. It has a massive base and its arms are rolled over the back. The sofa was donated by Anna Mary Schoot Motley, a descendent of Charles Taylor who was a prominent figure in Nacogdoches and Texas history. Taylor represented Nacogdoches at the convention and was a signer of the Texas Declaration of Independence. Charles Taylor owned multiple businesses in town including the grist mill and cotton warehouse. Today’s Pearl Street was originally named Taylor Street in his honor.
