Rulfs Parlor Set

The Rulfs Parlor set has a rich history within the Nacogdoches community. It was purchased by the Federation at an estate sale for Anna Kathryn Rulfs Holbrook. She was the niece of Diedrich Rulfs from whom she acquired the furniture. Rulfs was a well-known architect credited for the design of many landmark buildings in Nacogdoches in the late 1800s to early 1900s. Rulfs also designed two major churches in the community: Christ Episcopal Church and Zion Hill Baptist Church. However, many visitors do not know Rulfs was also a furniture maker. This parlor set was one that he had made for his own home. The parlor set has a dark red wood finish with wooden details and red and gold fabric cushions.
